Thomas Immanuel Barton (Toivi Cook) recently was honored
for his accomplishment by Congressman Bob Filner (Democrat-San Diego)
May, 2009

Other 13-year-olds occasionally have to be instructed by their parents
to "look it up in the dictionary." Not Thomas Immanuel Barton. He
actually compiled a Judeo-Castillian dictionary, or Judezmo (similar to Ladino).

I support Congressman Bob Filner, because he is
always busy working to improve our community
in Chula Vista and in other parts of San Diego.
Among many other projects he has been busy
in dealing with education and the sewer problem
from across the border that keeps spilling into
our beaches. It makes it hard for us to swim in the
water when that happens, and I like to swim a lot.

I am glad that I got to meet him in person, because he was very
encouraging about my book. When his dad was sent to
Italy during World War Two (2) it was sad because there was
not many Jewish survivors and it was hard for the American
soldiers to communicate with them, so they asked who spoke
Yiddish so that they could communicate with those who
survived and Congressman's dad who spoke Yiddish was
able to help by communicating with some of the survivors.
It shows how important it is to learn languages, so that we can
communicate with others in
times like World War Two.

If I were older I would vote for him. When I am old enough to vote,
I am going to vote for Congressman Bob Filner.
